About Heartwood Horses

Located in the beautiful desert climate of Kamloops, British Columbia, Heartwood Horses is owned [Zephyr & Fancy] by Celena Delaney. I set up shop after finally accepting that my passion for horses is absolutely incurable. Heartwood also allows me to talk at length about horsemanship with like-minded people - and as an avid collector of horsemanship information, this is another aspect of my "job" that I just love.

I am dedicated to really enjoying my horses - and other people's horses - and keeping life fun and interesting, both for myself and for them.

I am as likely to be found with my horses exploring in the forests, swimming and jumping creeks as I am to be deeply focused in the arena. As a result, my horses are exposed to (and survive!) many different situations and have at least as much fun as I do. Using an integration of classical and natural training methods, I keep my horses interested, playful and light while instilling the primary skills necessary for any horse to excel.

Why Heartwood?

[Zephyr in the trees] Trees develop a hard, dense spine-like wood that gives the tree a solid foundation around which to grow; this core is referred to as 'heartwood'. The heartwood not only gives trees strength and longevity, but also the flexibility to be moulded by the elements. I chose the name ‘Heartwood’ because it represents my philosophy - that if horses are given a strong foundation, they will develop into adaptable, confident and respectful partners, enabling them to become extraordinary performance and pleasure horses.
